The wellbeing of staff in schools has never been more important. With almost a third of new staff leaving the profession after just five years and 26% of teachers saying they are thinking of leaving in the next 12 months (National Foundation for Educational Research), we are facing a teacher retention crisis. The We Lead Well Podcast has been created in response to this crisis, to encourage and support schools to create places where people love to work. We support leaders to enhance the wellbeing of all staff in schools. Each week, leading educationalists share their experience, views and tips on how other school leaders can promote wellbeing in their organisations for the benefit of all staff.

Gemma Drinkall - Supporting your staff to stay well
Friday Dec 03, 2021
Friday Dec 03, 2021
This week I interviewed Gemma Drinkall who takes us through her experience of burnout as a middle leader. It's so important, as leaders, to get to know our staff, to understand them, so that we can notice when things are not right. In the episode, Gemma shares her personal experience of how teaching affected her mental health in the hope that by sharing what she went through, school leaders can develop their awareness of others so that they are able to empathise with staff and support their wellbeing in the workplace. Gemma came out of the other side of her burnout and is now a coach supporting teachers to achieve a better balance in their lives.
